International Story Day

Over the years, hundreds of fans of The Strangers Project have reached out to ask if there are ways to collect in their own communities. I've always been interested in exploring this possibility, but unfortunately, the logistics and the risk of losing focus kept this path from being fully explored. Instead, I would encourage these people to either do the exact same thing in their own city under any name they choose, or to put their own spin on the concept.

In Spring of 2013, I decided it was time to experiment. After a successful kickstarter campaign, “International Story Day” was born. This day, August 24th, was a chance for anyone to collect stories in their own communities at the same time. Over 800 participants signed up in over 60 countries. Everyone involved was given instructions on how to run the project similarly to I collect—with everything from how the sign should look (with room for creative expression) to how to interact with the strangers.
